At least six people were killed once a dam broke late Tuesday night and washed away many homes in Chiplun taluka of Ratnagiri district in the region. a minimum of sixteen others reported missing. The breach of the dam occurred around ten pm Tuesday once terribly serious rains over the last 2 days. officers feared the number of people missing might increase. Tiware Dam Breach in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri: 18 missing, 6 killed
As per the information given by the Ratnagiri police, the Tiware dam on a streamlet in Chiplun had started developing cracks once Tuesday evening. Before villagers downstream may well be alerted, the dam developed a rupture flooding the villages and hamlets among minutes.
At least 12 homes from a hamlet adjacent to the dam were washed away. groups from native police, district disaster management cell, fireplace brigade in conjunction with native villagers started the looking for missing villagers. Bodies of 2 adult males were recovered within the early hours of Wednesday.
The NDRF team stationed in close Sindhudurg district and people from the Pune headquarters of 15th Battalion of the NDRF were stirred for the spot late on Tuesday night.
As the groups reached the spot, they joined the continued search and operation with the local administration.
