It is finally that day of the year after which you will cease to receive the benefits of unlimited data, voice calls and text messages on your Reliance Jio mobile. However, if you do spare a few minutes to register for Jio Prime today, you will continue to receive the perks. Here’s what you need to know:

The first thing you would want to do to continue receiving the unlimited Jio data services is to sign up for Jio Prime soon after you complete reading this article. Why? First and foremost is that you as a Jio Prime member will receive almost double the data benefits unlike non-Prime members, where the monthly data allowance is much less. You can sign up for Jio Prime membership in a number of ways including through your MyJio app, or through Reliance’s Digital Xpress stores.

Step-by-step procedure for getting Jio Prime membership

One thing to keep in mind here is that Jio is offering a Rs 50 cashback on the Rs 99 fees if you recharge via JioMoney. This effectively means you will only be spending Rs. 49 and the Prime membership will be valid for a year until March 31, 2018. Also, Rs. 49 will only get you membership of Jio Prime and you will still have to pay at least Rs. 303 to continue receiving the benefits of unlimited data and calls.

To enroll for Jio Prime through the MyJio app, tap on the app and then swipe the menu from the left side. You will see the Jio Prime option in the menu, tap on that. Select ‘Get Jio Prime’ after that and you will be asked to pay using either a credit/debit card, or Paytm wallet or JioMoney wallet. If you select the JioMoney wallet you will receive Rs 50 cashback in the wallet. Select whichever option is convenient for you.

The next step you will need to do is select a plan for Rs 303 or above and recharge to complete the process. For Rs 50 cashback, select JioMoney wallet option while paying. The cashback will come into ‘Loyalty and Offers’ tab of JioMoney app.

Jio Prime vs. non-Jio Prime plans

Most of you have been confused as to what Jio Prime is all about. If you are a Jio Prime user, you will get more than double the data compared to non-Prime members. For example, for Rs 303, Prime members get 28GB data with 1GB as FUP, while non-Jio Prime members will get only 2.5GB data for 28 days.

If you are a data heavy user, you can select Rs 499 plan after Jio Prime registration and you will receive 56GB data with 2GB data limit per day, while non-Prime Jio users get 5GB data.

If you watch movies online through your smartphone or are an avid downloader, you can opt for Rs 999 plan under Jio Prime and you will get 60 GB data for 28 day period.

Reliance Jio has been running a ‘Buy One Get One’ offer and the deadline for this particular offer is March 31 i.e. today as well. Under this plan, Jio Prime prepaid users free data benefits when they recharge with Rs 149, Rs 303 or Rs 499 and above. These Prime members then get an add-on of 1GB, 5GB and 10GB data respectively.

What if I don’t register?

That’s perfectly fine. You don’t have to register for Jio Prime if you don’t wish to. Your connection will not be affected and you will continue receiving the 4G connectivity on your number. However, you will lose the benefits like the ones you initially had through the Jio ‘Happy New Year Offer’ where 1GB data per day was the norm. For Reliance Jio users, voice calls remain free and there are no roaming charges either.

Further, the Jio network is all about 4G and the suite of apps that come along with it that offer you a range of content ranging from movies, songs to magazines and news which are also being bundled free for one year. So if you do register as a Jio Prime member, you will get access to these apps for free.
