Japanese automaker Isuzu recently launched its facelifted prototype of Isuzu MU-X SUV internationally at the 2017 Bangkok Motor Show and now confirmation has arrived that the automaker will launch the car in India on May 11.

The MU-X nameplate was first launched in 2013 and since then it has been launched in a number of markets including Australia, New Zealand, Laos, Indonesia and Philippines.

Initially the new Isuzu MU-X will be launched in two engine vairants – a 3.0-litre engine generating 177bhp power and 380Nm of torque and a 2.5-litre turbodiesel unit producing 136bhp power and 320Nm of torque. A 1.9-litre four cylinder engine will join the lineup later which generates 150bhp power and 350Nm of torque.

Isuzu announced that the MU-X will be available in three variant in India which includes 4X4 MT and AT initially with the 4X2 models joining later.

The exterior design of the updated Isuzu MU-X shares the same underpinning with the D-Max and V-Cross pick-up having same frontal design. At the rear a unique set of horizontal tail lamps and new bumper with LED daytime running lights gives the SUV a refreshing look. The tweaked bumper, roof mounted spoiler and stylish 18-inch alloy wheel gives MU-X and modern look.

Looking inside the cabin the new MU-X now comes with three row seat with dual tone dashboard with leather upholstery. Furthermore the new MU-X gets luxurious interior technology which includes a new eight-inch infotainment screen with the Isuzu’s all new iConnect feature which includes navigation and smartphone connectivity, six speakers plus two roof-mounted speakers, 14 cup holders, steering mounted controls, six-way seat adjustment, and climate control all come as standard.

According to the statement given by Isuzu the assembly of the MU-X will be done locally at Isuzu’s Sri City Plant in Andhra Pradesh. Currently the assembly of D-Max and V-Cross pick-up truck is done in Sri City Plant which are the sister model to MU-X.

The MU-X is likely to compete with the Ford Endeavour, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the new Toyota Fortuner. Some select dealers have begun accepting bookings for the MU-X with deliveries being promised soon after market launch.

The MU-X will replace the MU7 in India and likely be priced similarly between Rs 20 – 25 lakh.
