Ace Telugu director, producer and writer, Guttha Bapineedu Chowdhary, also known as Vijaya Bapineedu, passed away on Tuesday morning because of age related sicknesses in Hyderabad. Bapineedu was 82 years of age.

Born in 1936 in Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, Bapineedu started his profession as a magazine writer with Bommarilu and Vijaya. Bapineedu also written a few books and got his huge break when Phalguna Arts chose to transform one of his books into the film Jagath Jateelu.
He turned director with Dabbu in 1981 and proceeded to direct many hit Telugu films like Khaidi No 786, Maga Maharaju, Magadheerudu and the most well known one being Gang Leader, released in 1991, featuring Chiranjeevi. The film was not just one of the greatest hits of Chiranjeevi’s profession but at the same time was named as an ‘industry hit’ and a ‘cult classic’. The film was likewise later remade in Hindi as Aaj Ka Goonda Raj.
Bapineedu likewise turned maker for the 1976 film Yavanam Katesindi and delivered some more movies like Rambha Urvasi Menaka, BottuKaatuka, Bommarillu, Prema Poojari, Vijaya, Rudra Thandavam. His last directorial was Kodukulu in 1998.
