Parineeti Chopra and Sidharth Malhotra’s film Jabariya Jodi that released on Friday doesn’t appear to reflect well in the box office. The movie, directed by Prashant Singh, opened with just 8-10 percent occupancy and is required to collect Rs 3-4 crore.
Jabariya Jodi box office collection Day 1 Worldwide
Produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, which finishes 25 years in 2019, parts Jodi depends on pakadwa vivah (groom kidnapping) common in certain parts of Bihar.
The film received negative reviews from critics as they called it a “cliched comedy” and “frustrating watch”. Lakshana N Palat, in her review, writes, “From the poster, teaser and trailer, Jabariya Jodi was touted to be a hilarious take on pakadwah vivah. Unfortunately, let alone comedy, the film’s social message is lost under forgettable songs, excruciating mindless entertainment, confused Bihari accents and a blotchy storyline.”
She adds, “Jabariya Jodi, despite attempting to take on social issues, is riddled with more problems than it can deal with. As always, the man decides for the woman, be it her lover or father. The women don’t have much of a voice, and men slowly take the centre-stage halfway through the film. This is even more frustrating, because the film seems to think it’s doing social service for all.”
This is for the second time that the engaging Jodi of Parineeti-Sidharth is seen in the cinema. In any case, it neglected to reproduce the enchantment it did with Hasee Toh Phasee. In any case, it appears the film will cruise easily in the box office as no other film has discharged for this present week.
The film’s collection brags of a couple of remixes of exemplary melodies by Tanishk Bagchi. With Zila Hilela and Khadke Glassy, the music director attempted to draw in passionate music lovers. From romantic tracks to move numbers, the collection has seven melodies – Glassy 2.0, Zilla Hilela, Khadke Glassy, Dhoonde Akhiyaan, Khwabfaroshi, Macchardani, and Ki Honda Pyaar.
Aside from Parineeti and Sidharth, Jabariya Jodi stars Sanjay Mishra, Jaaved Jaaferi, Aparshakti Khurana and Sheeba Chaddha in major jobs.
