Deadly bombing kills 5 in Istanbul

A remote controlled detonated bomb killed 5 people and wounded 15 on a highway in Istanbul, early Tuesday, in the latest of the series attacks on the Turkish Military.

Turkish news reports said that the attack might have been carried out by the Kurdish rebels, an armed group, seeking autonomy in southeastern Turkey. The Turkish authorities, the United States and the European Union, consider the group as a terrorist organization. The group has been in war with the Turkish state since the 1980s, and more than 40,000 people have been killed in the conflict so far.

Witnesses and police investigators reported, the explosion took place during the morning rush hour in the district of Halkali, as a military bus traveled between a residential compound and offices, which include the military police headquarters.

Three victims died at the scene and two in hospital. Among the dead were a 17 year old daughter of an officer. The bomb was planted in advance and had been detonated by cellphone.
