FIFA World Cup 2010: ‘The goal will come’, says Lionel Messi

FIFA World Player of the year, Lionel Messi is not affected by the goal drought. He doesn’t mind it as long as Argentina continue their winning streak at the World Cup. The Albiceleste beat Nigeria 1-0 in their Group B opener before toppling South Korea 4-1 and the Argentine striker had tons of chances to net the ball in both games, but was prevented by great goalkeeping.

Messi said, “It’s not a problem, The important thing is that I had opportunities and although the ball didn’t go in, eventually it will.”

Moving into the World Cup, the Barcelona player had underwent tough times in the Argentina shirt under coach Diego Maradona. He still averages a a disappointing tally of less than 1 goal every three games at international level.

“The goal will come. I am happy that Gonzalo HiguaĆn scored a hattrick against South Korea and I am delighted for the team. We took a step forward with respect to our opening game and hopefully we will take another one in our final game.”, said the FIFA World player of the year.

Maradona displayed his excitement as he is optimistic about his team’s chances in this World Cup and believes his team’s success will depend on Lionel Messi and others will play around him.

Argentina top Group B and will be playing against Greece in the final group match in Polokwane on 22nd June.
