Journalists have to be responsive and responsible
with commitment to their noble profession . It is they who as the
fourth column in a democracy can strengthen the forces to protect
democratic values and tradition . Free , fair and fearless journalism
is the base on which rests the foundation of democracy. This was the
gist of the speeches of mediapersons who outlined their views and
opinions on the theme for discussion , Bold media is imperative for
democracy , organized by the Silchar Press Club last night on the
World Press Freedom Day .
Initiating the discussion, the chairman of the Yugashankha group of
publications , Bijoy Krishna Nath , said “Mediapersons have to be
sincere , serious and constructive in discharging their duties ,
besides being objective”.
Dr Shilajit Guha , Reader in Mass Communications Deppartment, Assam
University, while articulating his Views, said that since
Independence, regional news papers or media-print and electronic- has
made significantstrides, a positive development in any democratic
society.
Dr Santanu Sarker, Department of Bengali, Assam University – noted
Journalist Atin Das, , Sanat Kumar Koiri , President, Silchar Press
Club passed their valuable comments about the discursion. In the
interactive Session that followed, Journalist Shasanka Shekhar Paul,
Anirban Jyoti Gupta ,Mausom Dutta and Mahua Chowdhury also took part.
