Prisoner escapes from Silchar Court premises
A prisoner named Shamim Hussain Laskar escaped from prison situated in the premises of the Silchar Court.
The police personnels serving in the prison as well as the Central Jail authorities have been held accountable for this incident. Sonai police arrested Shamim on 14th july for an alleged car theft.
He was sent to Central Jail on 14th july itself. Shamim was brought to court along with other prisoners for trial on Monday. Though all the other prisoners were taken back to Central Jail after their cases were heard, Shamim stayed back in the Court Premises on some plea.
He escaped through the roof of the urinal of the prison when the police personnel on duty left after locking the door.The police found out about this incident on Tuesday and the fact that Shamim has escaped through a gap which measures less than one foot has stunned everybody.
The Central Jail superintendent,Mr Baruah confirmed that the the list of the prisoners were tallied once they were brought back after the trial but he failed to explain how Shamim’s absence in the group of prisoners went unnoticed. If this kind of incidents are repeated, then crime will be rampant in Silchar and its nearby areas. Police is looking into this matter.
